The legal regulation of recognition of foreign qualifications ("Recognition Act" of the Federal and the state governments) facilitates the access of migrants to employment that matches their qualifications. They can make better use of their potential and apply it in an occupation that corresponds to their qualification.
The task of the IQ Network Baden-Württemberg is to provide information and advice for people with foreign certificates and for labour market institutions. For that purpose, the IQ Network Baden-Württemberg, together with the State of Baden-Württemberg and the League of Non-Statutory Welfare in Baden-Württemberg, has established initial contact points and competence centres for the recognition of foreign qualifications in all four administrative regions. These provide referral counselling and support in the professional orientation for all those seeking advice.
Since 2015, the recognition counselling has been supplemented by an IQ qualification counselling. This service is intended for persons seeking advice who have not received full recognition in the recognition procedure and who require updating training to compensate for the substantial differences identified by the competent authority. But persons who have received full recognition or who have been turned down can also avail themselves of this service. In the consultation they will be shown which qualification pathways and opportunities or other support services exist and informed about such subjects like integrated vocational and language learning.
Another task of the Baden-Württemberg regional network is to offer qualification measures throughout the federal state. For persons whose qualifications have only been partially recognised by the recognition body in the recognition procedure, the IQ network offers adaptation training courses in medical and teaching occupations in the dual system as well as language training for medical doctors and registered general nurses. For university graduates in non-regulated occupations, bridging measures are offered to enhance their technical, methodological and language skills and to facilitate access to the labour market.
